At least in Morrowind you actually had to develop your skills as a mage to be allowed the title of Archmage. There isn't even a Mage skill requirement beyond the three trivial early ones that you could do at 15 in a mage skill (entrance, wards class, Saarthal wall).
'All of a sudden you're archmage'? To me, that's the problem with Skyrim's. You had to figure out where the shack was by following the vague walking directions given to you involving visual-cue milestones.ģ. There wasn't a magic GPS arrow telling you the exact location of your next checkpoint.
If you didn't feel like doig Quest X right now you could go do Quest Y instead and still have it be relevant.Ģ. There were a mutltitude of questgivers whose quests would all contribute to your guild reputation. You weren't always railroaded into the one next quest that led to the one next quest that led to the one next quest.
